Exercise and Eating

Question:

How soon can one exercise after finishing a meal without hurting my digestive system?

Answer:

No set rules exist for how much time should be allotted between eating a meal and exercise. If you don't have cardiovascular disease, it is fine to exercise anytime after you eat.

Some people develop cramps if they exercise immediately after eating. The process your stomach uses to digest food is very costly in terms of oxygen. If you have limited blood flow to your heart because your arteries are partially blocked, you might find that you will get angina if you exercise too soon after you eat.

I recommend that people with heart disease wait about an hour after eating to exercise.
