Heart Attack

A heart attack this is caused by a sudden closure of a coronary artery. This is a medical emergency, and if suspected, you should go to a hospital immediately.  Seconds matter, and it could save your life. Ambulance transport is advised.

According to the American Heart Assoication the symptoms of a heart attack include:

  • Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.   
  • Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.   
  • Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.  
  • Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness     

Call 911 if you suspect you are having a heart attack!

Your doctor may want to perform emergency coronary intervention (See Coronary Artery Stenting) as the preferred treatment for the heart attack.

Expect to stay in the hospital from 3-5 days after the treatment, depending on the severity of the initial heart attack.
