Cornerstones of NMHI
Our commitment to our patients is grounded in four specific areas, as symbolized by the four squares of our logo. These are the cornerstones of our practice:
Patient Care - We are committed to providing outstanding care for our patients. We strive to give our patients a personal relationship with one primary doctor who is backed by the expertise that only comes with a team of specialists working together. We recognize that the emotional and psychological needs of our patients can be as important to the patient's recovery as the medical care they receive.
Prevention - Cardiology is a dynamic field and one of the areas of greatest change is in prevention. We are deeply committed to bringing our patients the most current approaches to prevention. The careful cholesterol monitoring provided through our lipid clinic, and our commitment to exercise and diet programs are examples of how we are dedicated to helping patients take care of themselves.
Education - Educating patients, doctors, and the general public about heart disease has always been key to the New Mexico Heart Institute's mission. Each year we conduct seminars for other medical professionals in the region to bring them the latest information on cardiac care. We also maintain a year-round training program for medical students, and many Institute physicians have clinical teaching roles at the University of New Mexico Medical School. In addition, our active speaker's bureau provides free education on a variety of medical topics to community groups statewide. All our employees are also encouraged to participate in continuing education programs to enhance their knowledge, skill and abilities.
Research - The New Mexico Heart Institute has a 30-year tradition of clinical research. Through this program we have introduced cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic modalities which have raised the level of care for all New Mexicans. We are members of Duke University Cooperative Cardiology Society and participate in many clinical trials treating heart failure, arrhythmias, lipid and coronary interventions.
